Fine for teenagers.
Skyrim is an amazing game, I have 178 hours played at the time of writing this review, I would say that if your child is mature enough, they should be able to play this game. There are some things you may have to take in to consideration though.

Great for almost teens and up!

Just the Violence which if your kid is not scarred by these things it's 100% fine for them! That's why I think anything under 12 would get scared by the violence but if your child is mature enough it's fine.

Is it OK for a 12 year old to play Skyrim?

It is a good game that will interest kids ages roughly 12-17. I play it a little younger because I'm aloud to but it is ok for mid teenagers. The language in this game is mostly PG-13 and the game does not focus on sex and it is never mentioned. This game has about as much sex as the bible but the violence is bad.

Yes, Skyrim is a great game, and while it has violent themes it is very tame when compared to most other games an 11 year old boy would want. I've been playing Skyrim and Oblivion (its predecessor) since I was little, and I have been absolutely in love with these games.
