Can you make multiple households in Sims 3?

You can choose to play as your original household. But, if you would ever like to play as your newly married sims' household, you can easily go into edit town mode and switch into their household to play with for as ever long as you like.

It's set at 8 by default and you can change it to whatever you want. There's also Maximum Size: Pet which defaults to 6. With all those mods you should be able to have larger households.
