Is Euro Truck Simulator good without wheel?

I play it with just the keyboard (and mouse to look around) and it's fine. Granted, you do have to make lots of corrections all the time, so I'd guess a gamepad would be a better option (if I could be bothered), but I don't think a wheel is necessary. I played with a gamepad and went back to keyboard.
